Want to buy a realistic-looking black airsoft gun (RIF) from onlyBBguns? Because these guns look so real, UK law (the VCRA Act) requires you to have a valid reason, called a "defence," to own one. Essentially, you need to prove you're buying it for airsoft skirmishing (the sport itself), not for any other purpose.

Here's how you can demonstrate your defence to onlyBBguns and buy a black airsoft gun:

  1. Show proof of skirmishing: Gather evidence like photos and videos from airsoft games you've participated in. These should clearly show you actively involved in skirmishing, demonstrating your intent to use the gun for the sport.
  2. Become a registered skirmisher: The easiest way to prove your defence is by joining a recognized airsoft association and getting a membership card. The most common one in the UK is UKARA. This registration confirms you're a legitimate airsoft player.

Don't have either of those? No problem! You can still buy the airsoft gun. onlyBBguns can paint it in a two-tone colour scheme. This means part of the gun will be sprayed a bright, non-realistic colour. This makes the gun a "non-realistic imitation firearm" and avoids the restrictions of the VCRA Act. Anyone over 18 can legally buy a two-tone airsoft gun.

Imperial Precision: The S&T Type 97 Sniper Rifle (STSPG15)

The Type 97 Sniper Rifle was the specialized marksman variant of the Arisaka Type 38, featuring a lighter stock, a mono-pod (on original variants), and a specialized bolt to accommodate optics. The S&T Type 97 Sniper Rifle (STSPG15) captures the grace and mechanical precision of this historical icon, merging a magnificent Real Wood Stock with modern airsoft reliability.

Authentic Wood and Metal Craftsmanship

This rifle is a masterpiece of historical replication, featuring a stunning, one-piece real wood stock that provides the authentic balance and tactile experience of the original. The metal components—including the outer barrel, receiver, and bolt assembly—are finished to a high standard to ensure durability and a realistic metallic sheen.

Sniper-Specific Features

As a dedicated sniper model, the STSPG15 features the distinctive turned-down bolt handle. This design is historically accurate, allowing the shooter to cycle the action efficiently while a scope is mounted to the integrated side-rail. For users preferring traditional aiming, the rifle retains the classic ladder-style adjustable rear sights.

VSR-10 Performance Core

Underneath its vintage exterior, the S&T Type 97 utilizes an internal system based on the proven VSR-10 architecture. This provides significant advantages for competitive play:

  • Upgrade Path: Compatibility with standard aftermarket VSR-10 springs, pistons, and hop-up components for maximum range and power.

  • Consistency: The simple spring-powered mechanism ensures reliable muzzle velocity (typically 380–420 FPS) in all weather conditions.

  • Precision Tuning: Features an easily accessible sliding hop-up lever on the side of the barrel for fine-tuning the trajectory of heavy-weight BBs.

Tactical Role and Milsim Value

The S&T Type 97 Sniper Rifle is the ultimate choice for WWII Milsim players and historical re-enactors. Its long barrel and stable platform make it a formidable choice for the long-range scout or sniper role. Whether you are building a period-accurate loadout or simply appreciate the craftsmanship of a wood-stocked rifle, the STSPG15 delivers an elite blend of history and performance.

Two tone
We can two tone any weapon we sell at Bespoke Airsoft. The purpose for two toning is if you do not hold a valid defense under the Violent Crimes Reduction Act (VCRA, 2006) which is to prevent the misuse of Replica Weapons, which applies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The gun will be sprayed 51% in a bright/primary color (we do only blue, green and red currently). The process of two toning currently runs at 2 working days depending on Drying Time, which is effected by Ambient Temperature and Weather. and currently no express delivery is available for this even if you select it at checkout.

FAQs

1.     What is a BB gun used for?  BB guns are mostly used for practice shooting and training. The stronger ones (i.e. Air Rifles) can also control pests or hunt small animals.

2.     Do you need a Licence in the UK for a BB gun? No, you don't need a licence for a BB gun in the UK, but there are rules. The BB Gun needs to be in two colours; one has to be a primary. All our guns are on the website as per default.

3.     Is a BB gun a good weapon?   BB guns, despite sometimes being seen as toys, can be dangerous. They fire pellets at high speeds and can cause serious harm, or even be deadly in some situations.

4.     Can you shoot BB guns in public in the UK without a Firearm license? BB guns in the UK navigate a legal grey area. While certain models, notably low-power 'soft air' types, typically evade classification as section 1 firearms, more potent versions may require a valid firearms certificate to avoid legal repercussions.

5.     Can you shoot a BB gun in your garden? You can use a BB gun in your garden under UK law, but you have to ensure the pellets don't go into your neighbour's yard, plot or land. If they do and you don't have permission, it's against the law.

6.     Which UK law am I breaking if the pellets go into my neighbour's law without permission?  If your BB gun pellets go into your neighbour's yard without permission, you're breaking UK laws. Specifically, the 1968 Firearms Act and possibly the 2003 Anti-Social Behaviour Act, because you may be causing your neighbours trouble or worry.
